From Jeff on Aug, 22, 2003 Video Asia Features Gordon Liu 08.18.2003 ... A new line of classic kung fu DVDs were released in June from American distributor Video Asia. The titles include Mantis in the Monkey's Shadow, Shaolin Invincible Sticks, Death Duel of Mantis, Rivals of the Silver Fox, and Snake in the Crane's Shadow. These are all classics, some of which have not been available on DVD before. While the quality of their prints may be poor, they all include a feature to interest old school and SB fans. The 'Master Killer' Gordon Liu was tapped for a 17-minute interview and two short Hung Gar demonstrations just for Video Asia. In English, he briefly talks about his career, his sifu Lau Kar-leung, and making Drunken Monkey which reunited him on set with Lau and his brother Lau Kar-wing for the first time in 10 years, Liu also discusses making Kill Bill with an enthusiastic Quentin Tarantino. In the upcoming two-part film, Liu plays two roles. One is a killer in the present and the other is a white-haired master in the past (as seen in the trailer). His comments about Tarantino's failed attempt to play this latter role are humorous. Two unedited video clips of Liu and his student practicing kung fu show that he hasn't lost his touch. |
